The German Village Farmers Market's Last Saturday Is Also Opening Day for One of Its Longtime Vendors

On Saturday morning, Nov. 21, the tables along Third Street will go up for the German Village Farmers Market one last time this year. The market runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and its listed location is 588 S. Third St. One of the farmers who has worked that market for eight years won't be at her usual spot. At 10 a.m. that day, Jamie Pritchard of WIT Farm plans to open the doors of The Farmer's Larder at 900 S. High St., a grocery stocked largely by the same producers you've been buying from on Saturdays.

Every other year, the season's end on Third Street meant those producers dropped out of the neighborhood's weekly routine until spring. This year, part of that supply moves indoors, open seven days a week, on the morning the outdoor season stops.

Four Saturdays Left as of Oct. 29

This post goes up on Thursday, Oct. 29. That's also Beggars' Night in Columbus, set for 6 to 8 p.m., according to NBC4's trick-or-treat schedule. The 2026 market season opened May 2 and ends Nov. 21. From that Thursday, four mornings remain:

  1. Saturday, Oct. 31. Halloween falls on a market day this year, two days after Beggars' Night.
  2. Saturday, Nov. 7.
  3. Saturday, Nov. 14.
  4. Saturday, Nov. 21. The final market of the season, and opening day at The Farmer's Larder.

Every date runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Third Street. The market's vendor application form also lists Nov. 21 as the last 2026 date. No winter or indoor version of the farmers market has been announced. The market's Facebook page is the place to watch for weather changes or last-minute updates.

The Vendor Who Decided to Stay

Pritchard started WIT Farm in 2021 and farms in Blue Rock, Ohio, as Columbus Underground reported in May. She had thought about opening her own shop for years. In Columbus Underground's October report, she said she didn't expect a store to do well back home, a town of about 600 people.

The same report traces the idea to a specific moment. When Chapman's Eat Market closed last August, she decided to open in the German Village area. Eight years of Saturdays on Third Street had made her familiar with the people who shop there. Chapman's was a restaurant at 739 S. Third St. Chef BJ Lieberman closed it when its five-year lease ran out. Its last service was Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, according to The Columbus Dispatch. The Larder isn't taking over that space.

The 900 S. High St. address technically sits just outside German Village, in the Brewery District. The business still markets itself as "German Village's Grocery." The first announcement came in February, and back then Pritchard expected to open sometime over the summer. The grand opening is now set for Nov. 21, a date also posted on the store's own site. Until the doors actually open, treat it as a scheduled opening.

Same Supplier List, Different Schedule

Pritchard plans to fill 90% of the store with local goods. The other 10% will be gourmet foods you can't find in Ohio. Columbus Underground reported that many of the products come from suppliers at the German Village Farmers Market, along with businesses WIT Farm already supplies. The named producers include The Farmstead Market, Truest Farms, The Baker's Rack and Anna Bakes Things.

The real change from November on is when and where you can buy from those producers:

German Village Farmers Market The Farmer's Larder
Where Along Third Street, listed at 588 S. Third St. 900 S. High St., Brewery District
When Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Daily, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Dates May 2 to Nov. 21, 2026 Opening Nov. 21, 2026
What's on offer Vendor tables from local producers Meat, produce, pantry staples, prepared foods, party platters, Farm Shares

The market gives you a four-hour window one morning a week, May through November. The Larder's posted hours run nine hours a day, seven days a week. If a schedule kept you from Saturday mornings on Third Street, you'll have a lot more chances to buy from these producers. The Farm Shares are bundles of ingredients for specific meals, as Columbus Underground described them. That format is closer to cooking a weeknight dinner than to browsing a vendor table.

Thanksgiving Ordering Closes Before the Doors Open

The timing gets tight here. Thanksgiving orders at the Larder are due by Nov. 20, the day before the store opens. Pickup is Tuesday, Nov. 24, or Wednesday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. That means ordering online now, from a shop you haven't walked into yet.

The holiday menu lists these options:

  • Mains: whole or half turkey, turkey breast, bone-in or boneless ham, or duck
  • Sides: mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, roasted Brussels sprouts, sweet winter vegetables, dressing, cider gravy, cranberry sauce and rolls
  • Desserts: pies and cupcakes

The menu doesn't list a bundled meal price, so check the ordering page for current costs before you commit.

Put that next to the market calendar and November sorts itself out. The Nov. 7 and Nov. 14 markets are your last two chances to talk with vendors face to face before the Nov. 20 order deadline. On Nov. 21, you can go to the final market on Third Street when it opens at 9 and still get to High Street for the Larder's 10 a.m. opening while the market is still running until 1. The turkey pickup comes three days after that.

What Stays Open on Third Street

The Larder doesn't replace the corner of Third Street that's open every day. Katzinger's Delicatessen at 475 S. Third St. lists daily hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offers pickup, delivery and catering. Pistacia Vera's bakery at 541 S. Third St. lists daily hours and runs an online shop. The two sit close to the market's listed address at 588 S. Third St., so a trip after the market closes doesn't change your route much. Third Street keeps its daily stops, and High Street adds a daily grocery for local produce and meat.

The next market-style event on the neighborhood calendar is a different one. The German Village Makers Market comes back on Sunday, Dec. 6, from 3 to 8 p.m., during Village Lights. That's a makers market, so it isn't a continuation of the Saturday farmers market. It's still the next time Third Street fills with vendor tables after Nov. 21.
